October Smiles: How WAO Celebrated National Orthodontic Health Month

October is National Orthodontic Health Month, and at Wafelbakker Anderson Orthodontics (WAO), the month became a time to reflect on why smiles matter. From spotlighting patient stories to celebrating kindness and unity, WAO used October to honor its patients and community.

Celebrating More Than Smiles

Orthodontics is often thought of as braces, adjustments, and appointments. At WAO, it is much more. Straightening teeth not only improves oral health but also helps patients feel confident in themselves. “We don’t just create smiles,” said Dr. Bas Wafelbakker. “We create confidence and give people a reason to smile back at the world.”

Patients at the Heart

Throughout the month, WAO highlighted the voices of its patients. Families shared stories of feeling supported, teens expressed gratitude for staff who made treatment less intimidating, and adults celebrated the life-changing difference of a healthy, confident smile.

One parent shared, “I have three kids, all with different orthodontists. By far, WAO has been our favorite. The staff made us feel like family, and the care was second to none.” Another added, “Every appointment was easy and accommodating. The entire team made braces a fun experience instead of a stressful one.”

These heartfelt reflections reminded the team why their work matters.

Unity and Kindness

In mid-October, WAO joined the national celebration of Unity Day — a moment to promote kindness and inclusivity. “Just as every smile is unique, so is every person,” the team shared. “When we stand together in kindness, we build stronger, healthier communities.” For WAO, this message connected directly to its philosophy: orthodontics is about embracing differences and helping every individual feel confident in their own smile.

The WAO Philosophy

Patients often refer to their results as the “Wafelbakker Smile,” a phrase that captures WAO’s approach. For Dr. Wafelbakker and Dr. Chris Anderson, that smile is more than cosmetic. It represents a conservative, thoughtful approach to treatment — one that protects oral health while delivering natural, lasting results.

“We’re not just straightening teeth,” Dr. Anderson explained. “We’re building function, health, and joy into every smile.”

Gratitude for the Journey – THANK YOU

As October came to a close, WAO expressed thanks to its patients, families, and staff. “Every smile tells a story,” the team shared. “We are honored to be part of those stories, and we are grateful for the trust our community places in us. Together, we are building confidence, one smile at a time.”
